ParticipantClash detection has become the industry’s go-to benchmark for coordination success, yet many clash-free MEP models still fail during installation. The reason is straightforward—clash detection confirms geometric clearance, not whether systems can actually be installed, supported, insulated, or maintained on site.
Without constructability review, MEP shop drawings often ignore real-world constraints such as hanger space, bend radii, access for tools, installation sequence, and prefabrication limits. The model may pass coordination software, but the field team pays the price through rework and delays.
The real question is whether clash detection alone creates a false sense of completion. Should constructability review be treated as a mandatory checkpoint before issuing MEP shop drawings for construction?
