NEET UG Counseling 2023
In 2021, extensive legal proceedings in the Supreme Court led to a delay in the NEET UG Results, subsequently affecting the NEET UG Counseling 2023 timeline. Consequently, the counseling commenced in the first week of February ’22 and extended until the last week of that month. To summarize, there was a total delay of 4 months in the NEET UG Counseling for 2021.
The Medical Counseling Committee is responsible for conducting NEET UG Counseling. This process involves allocating seats in MBBS, BDS, and other disciplines to selected NEET UG test takers based on their performance in the examination. The outcome of this process determines the distribution of 83,000 seats in MBBS alone.
While the prolonged wait for NEET-UG 2021 Counseling was atypical, even in normal circumstances, this waiting period induces anxiety and uncertainty. Regarding NEET UG Counseling 2023, one can only hope for a timely schedule, sparing aspirants from a protracted and agonizing wait.
NEET UG Counseling Eligibility Criteria
With the National Medical Commission (NMC) taking over from the Medical Council of India, significant changes have been implemented. The eligibility for participation in NEET UG Counseling now hinges on two criteria: marks obtained in Class XII or its equivalent and the NEET UG 2023 Score.
Consistent with previous years, a prerequisite for engaging in NEET UG Counseling 2023 is the successful completion of 10+2 or its equivalent in the Science stream. This entails clearing main subjects such as Biology (or Biotechnology), Physics, and Chemistry.
Furthermore, candidates must secure a minimum of 50% marks if they fall under the unreserved category. For those in the reserved categories, the threshold is lower, with a minimum score of 45% for Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates and 40% for SC/ST candidates.
Additionally, candidates must have reached the age of 17 by December 31 of the enrollment year.
