About Riga Technical University (RTU)

Established in 1862, Riga Technical University (RTU) proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest university in Latvia, with a distinguished legacy spanning 160 years. It stands as the largest technical university in the Baltic Sea region and is a state-owned institution of international renown.

RTU boasts an enrollment of over 14,000 students, with approximately 72% pursuing undergraduate (UG) studies and 28% engaged in postgraduate (PG) programs. The university also hosts more than 2,400 international students and maintains a faculty roster of over 880 highly skilled members.

Comprising nine faculties, RTU offers a wide array of academic and professional study programs spanning engineering, social sciences, and humanities. It holds a prominent position in Latvian higher education and was recognized in the QS World University 2022 rankings, placing 751st-800th overall.

RTU boasts a distinguished research staff, including 291 leading researchers, 298 researchers, and 261 scientific assistants, among others, comprising a total of over 560 academic staff members.

Programs Offered at RTU

RTU offers more than 50 study programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, many of which are delivered in English to cater to international students. These programs cover a broad spectrum of fields including engineering, economics, management, business, electronics, telecommunications, computer science, environmental engineering, humanities, and chemical technologies, among others. Additionally, RTU provides an MBA program at the master’s level.

Part-Time Employment

Moving abroad for higher education has become a prevalent trend. Wondering how to meet your essential needs? International students have the opportunity to work part-time while pursuing their studies. According to Latvia’s regulations, international students can work up to 20 hours per week during semesters and 40 hours per week during semester breaks.

Moreover, foreign students can easily secure part-time employment on a student visa without the need for a work permit. Students can earn a minimum of 430 Euros monthly, not only providing them with a sustainable income but also helping them manage additional monthly expenses.

Post-Study Work Visa (PSW)

Upon completing their studies at Riga Technical University, Latvia, international students are eligible to apply for a temporary residence permit. Following graduation, students have the option to remain in Latvia or any other Schengen country for 12-15 months, allowing them time to seek employment or pursue self-employment opportunities. Additionally, students are required to obtain a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) upon their arrival in Latvia.
