Medical Postgraduate (PG) Education in India or NExT

During their MBBS studies, students come to appreciate the significance of specializing in a particular field. They also become aware of the fierce competition involved in securing a seat for MD/MS programs in Government colleges. Looking at the success rate of obtaining a PG seat in a Government Medical College, which stands at a mere 11%, it’s apparent that only 1 out of 10 applicants will succeed. Moreover, the odds of obtaining a seat in a clinical specialty are even slimmer, with only 1 out of 20 applicants being successful. Consequently, it is evident that the journey to pursue PG studies is incredibly challenging, and students may need substantial financial resources to secure a paid seat in a Private Medical College, which could cost millions.

Medical Postgraduate Education in the USA (USMLE)

Recognizing the challenges associated with obtaining a PG seat in India, many students are now turning their attention to preparing for the USMLE from as early as their first year of MBBS. This shift is due to the alignment of the USMLE with the new NMC Competency-based curriculum, making it more accessible for Indian students. The US healthcare system is widely regarded as one of the best globally, attributed to factors such as high rewards, excellent infrastructure, merit-based assessment, and open opportunities for super specialties. Consequently, numerous countries are endeavoring to emulate the US healthcare assessment system for their medical graduates. The USMLE exam is divided into three parts, with students typically appearing for Step 1 after their second year, Step 2 CK during their internship, and Step 3 during their residency (Medical PG). The USMLE is administered online and can be taken at PROMETRIC centers located across India.

MOKSH Coaching specializes in a patient-centered learning approach, enabling students to achieve high scores on both the USMLE and NEXT exams. With MOKSH being a leading name in USMLE coaching, over 1000 students from medical colleges in India and abroad are currently preparing for USMLE steps through the MOKSH platform.

Medical Postgraduate Education in the UK (PLAB)

Given Moldova’s proximity to the UK, many students opt to pursue their Medical PG studies in the UK. Until 2024, the Professional & Linguistic Assessments Board Test (PLAB test) serves as the assessment tool for evaluating the skills and knowledge of International Medical Graduates, determining their suitability for medical practice in the UK.

In essence, an IMG’s performance in the PLAB test dictates their eligibility to practice medicine in the UK. The PLAB test consists of two stages: PLAB 1, an exam comprising 180 MCQs assessing recall, and PLAB 2, a practical OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Exam) evaluating clinical skills.

The General Medical Council (GMC) assesses linguistic proficiency through specific tests, such as the IELTS (Band Score 7.0 or higher) or OET (Grade B in reading, writing, listening & speaking).
