From my perspective, Structural BIM projects don’t usually lose accuracy because of the modeling software, they lose accuracy during the design development stage when project information changes faster than the model is updated. Frequent design revisions, incomplete structural inputs, inconsistent communication between architects and structural engineers, and delayed coordination can all create gaps between the model and the intended design.

I also believe that accuracy is influenced by how well teams manage model updates throughout the project. Even a highly detailed model can become unreliable if revisions are not tracked properly or if different disciplines work from outdated information. In my experience, maintaining consistent coordination and regular quality checks is just as important as creating an accurate model in the first place.

That’s my perspective, but I’m interested in hearing from others in the industry.

Where do you think Structural BIM projects most commonly lose accuracy during design development?
