ParticipantIn several of my recent projects, I’ve noticed that the architectural team models elements at a much higher LOD (like 350–400) early in the design phase, while the structural team is still working at LOD 200 or 300. This creates major coordination gaps, especially when we run BIM clash detections or prepare for fabrication drawings. For example, the architectural walls may already include finishes, while the structural framing is still schematic, leading to alignment issues, clashes, and unnecessary rework later.
We’ve tried setting clear LOD definitions in the BIM Execution Plan, but in fast-track projects, it’s still difficult to keep every discipline aligned.
How do you manage or synchronize LOD consistency between architecture and structure in your projects? Do you rely on software automation, model audits, or just stricter coordination workflows?
Looking forward to hearing how others tackle this issue.
