Maths Basic Sample Paper Class 10 2024-25: Question Type

  1. a) one solution b) two solutions c) infinitely many solutions d) no solution 

  • Short Answer-I (SA-I) Type Questions: Section B has 5 short answer type questions carrying 2 marks each, the SA-I type questions require precise answers and test your basic knowledge of the topic. 

Example of SA-1 is: Evaluate: sin2 60˚ + 2tan 45˚ – cos2 30˚. 

  • Short Answer-II (SA-II) Type Questions: Section C has 6 SA-II type questions carrying 3 marks each, these questions demand a concise and accurate response.

An example of a Section C question is: Prove that √3 is an irrational number.

  • Long Answer (LA) Type Questions: Section D has 4 Long answer questions carrying 5 marks each. These questions require a more detailed approach and step-by-step problem-solving.

An example of a section D question is: Prove that if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.  

  • Sourced-based, Case-based, and Passage-based: Section E has three integrated units of assessment (4 marks each) with sub-parts of the values of 1, 1 and 2 marks each respectively. 

An example of section E is: India is a competitive manufacturing location due to the low cost of manpower and strong technical and engineering capabilities contributing to higher quality production runs. The production of TV sets in a factory increases uniformly by a fixed number every year. It produced 16000 sets in the 6th year and 22600 in the 9th year.

  • All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice in 2 Qs of 2 marks, 2 Qs of 3 marks, and 2 questions of 5 marks has been provided. An internal choice has been provided in the 2-mark questions of Section E.

CBSE Class 10 Maths Syllabus: Unit-wise Weightage 

The CBSE Class 10 Math Syllabus contains seven units, which include:

Unit I: Number Systems

It includes real numbers, the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, statements after reviewing work done earlier and after illustrating and motivating through examples, and carries a total of 6 marks weightage in the exam. 

Unit II: Algebra

Unit two includes four chapters: polynomials, a pair of linear equations in two variables, quadratic equations, and arithmetic progressions. This unit is very important for the exam, it carries 20 marks in the Class 10 math paper.

Unit III: Coordinate Geometry

Concepts of coordinate geometry, graphs of linear equations, distance formulas, and section formulas are important concepts in this. This unit carries 6 marks weightage in the exam. 

Unit IV: Geometry

Unit 4 carries 15 marks and two chapters, triangles and circles. 

Unit V: Trigonometry

This unit includes 10 marks in the exam and has three chapters; introduction to Trigonometry, Trigonometric Identities, and Heights and Distances: Angle of Deviation and Angle of Dispersion. 

Unit VI: Mensuration

The second last unit mensuration includes two chapters, areas related to circles, surface areas and volumes, and has 13 marks weightage in the exam. 

Unit VII: Statistics and Probability

Statistics and Probability are two important chapters of Unit VII, this unit carries 6 marks in the Basic Math Class 10 Question Paper.
