The new Peugeot 2008: a stylish and efficient small SUV with a 48V hybrid option
The Peugeot 2008 is one of the most popular small SUVs in Europe, and it has just received a mid-cycle refresh for 2023. The updated model features a new design, improved technology, and a new 48V hybrid powertrain that will join the lineup in 2024.
The 2023 Peugeot 2008 sports a new front end with a wider grille and a new Peugeot shield logo. The LED headlights have a new three-claw signature, and the rear lights have been redesigned as well. The new model also has a new typeface for the badges and new alloy wheel designs.
Inside, the Peugeot 2008 features a new 10-inch i-Cockpit digital dashboard with a 3D display on GT models. The infotainment system has been upgraded with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as optional TomTom navigation. The new model also offers more safety and driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and blind spot monitoring.
The 2023 Peugeot 2008 is available in four trim levels: Active, Allure, GT, and First Edition. The Active trim is the entry-level option, and it comes with the i-Connect infotainment system, manual air conditioning, and 16-inch steel wheels. The Allure trim adds dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The GT trim is the sporty option, and it features full LED headlights, a leather steering wheel, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The First Edition is the most exclusive option, and it comes with a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and a premium sound system.
The new Peugeot 2008 offers a choice of two petrol engines and one electric motor. The petrol engines are a 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech unit with either 99bhp or 128bhp, paired with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The electric motor is a 154bhp unit that powers the e-2008 variant, which has a larger 54kWh battery that provides a range of up to 251 miles.
In 2024, the Peugeot 2008 will also introduce a new 48V hybrid powertrain, which will combine a 136bhp 1.2-litre PureTech engine with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox that incorporates an electric motor. The 48V hybrid system will allow the Peugeot 2008 to run on electric power up to 50% of the time in urban driving and reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 15% and 20%, respectively.
The 48V hybrid system will also offer three driving modes: Sand, Mud, and Snow. These modes will adjust the power delivery and traction control to suit different road conditions. The 48V hybrid system will also come with all-season tires for better grip and performance.
The 2023 Peugeot 2008 is available to order now, with prices starting from $32,640 for the Active trim with the 99bhp petrol engine and manual gearbox. The e-2008 starts from $49,356 for the Active trim with the electric motor. The 48V hybrid powertrain will be available in 2024, and the prices have not been announced yet.
The Peugeot 2008 is one of the main rivals of the Ford Puma, the Toyota Yaris Cross, and the Hyundai Kona. The Peugeot 2008 stands out with its stylish design, spacious interior, and efficient powertrains. The new 48V hybrid option will make it even more appealing for eco-conscious buyers who want a versatile and practical small SUV.
