Maguri Beel, also known as Maguri Motapung Beel, is a beautiful wetland located about 11 km from Tinsukia Town.
The name Maguri Beel means “lake of catfish” in Assamese, which reflects the rich aquatic life found in the area. Covering 9.6 square kilometers near Motapung village, Maguri Beel was declared an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) in 1996.
Maguri Beel is home to more than 110 resident bird species, including endangered ones, and attracts over 300 migratory birds. This makes Maguri Beel a perfect spot for birdwatching and nature lovers alike. Some bird species found in Maguri Beel include the Mandarin duck, Ruddy shelduck, Black-breasted parrotbill, and more.
